A new Managing Director for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) emerged on Wednesday after its Executive Board selected Kristalina Georgieva to succeed Christine Lagarde.

In her statement shortly after she was announced as the 12th Chief Executive since the Fund’s inception in 1944, Ms Georgieva said her immediate priority will be to help countries minimize the risk of crises to enable them be ready to cope with economic downturns.

Her five-year term will start on October 1.

Below is her statement.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected as Managing Director of the IMF and grateful for the trust that the Fund’s global membership and the Executive Board have placed in me.

“I want to pay tribute to my predecessor, Christine Lagarde, a great leader and a dear friend, whose vision and tireless work have contributed so much to the continued success of the Fund.

“The IMF is a unique institution with a great history and a world-class staff. I come as a firm believer in its mandate to help ensure the stability of the global economic and financial system through international cooperation. Indeed, in my view, the Fund’s role has never been more important.

“It is a huge responsibility to be at the helm of the IMF at a time when global economic growth continues to disappoint, trade tensions persist, and debt is at historically high levels.
"As I noted in my statement to the Executive Board, our immediate priority is to help countries minimize the risk of crises and be ready to cope with downturns. Yet, we should not lose sight of our long-term objective – to support sound monetary, fiscal and structural policies to build stronger economies and improve people’s lives. This means also dealing with issues like inequalities, climate risks and rapid technological change.

“For our readiness to act, safeguarding the Fund’s financial strength is essential, and so are enhancing its surveillance and capacity development efforts. Working with my team, my goal is to further strengthen the Fund by making it even more forward-looking and attentive to the needs of our members.

“I look forward to working with all our 189-member countries, the Executive Board and staff, and with all our partners in the years ahead,” the new managing director said.

General Overseer of the City of God Rest Ministry, Pastor Destiny Eguavoen, was on Sunday beaten up by youths of Urora community in Edo state for flouting the community’s order to stop church service before 8am.

Chief Priest of the community, Chief Ugiagbe Aiwaguore, Ohen Ugbodeyaen of Urora, had ordered owners of shops in the community and residents to stay indoors for the celebration of the annual Ikpoleki festival.

All churches were asked to end their Sunday service before 8am.

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Bishop Oyenude Kure, kicked against the order saying it violated the freedom of worship as enshrined in the Nigeria Constitution.

Bishop Kure asked churches in Urora to go about their normal church service on Sunday.

He said the restriction on movement was unacceptable to the church as the body of Christ.

It was gathered that youths of the community moved from street to street to ensure compliance as shops were closed and some churches hurriedly ended their service while other refused to open for business.

Many residents in the community were indoors.

At the City of God Rest Ministry, the youths were peeved that the Pastor was still preaching as at 9am and they disrupted the service.

Members of the church scampered for safety as the youths used chairs to beat anybody in sight.

Speaking to our reporter on phone, Pastor Eguavoen said he was badly injured during the attack.

Pastor Eguavoen who said he was at the police headquarters said the leadership of CAN has promised to take over the matter.

According to him, “We were in the church and I saw a man standing in the front pointing at me. It was few minutes past nine. I told my members to concentrate for me to round up service but the youths stormed in and started beating us.

“They said we did not comply with their directive. They told us to open church between 6am and 8am but we Pastors met and said Sunday’s is a day of our worship and there is no way they can stop us.”

Spokesman for the community, Sunday Osagiede, said they gave churches time within which to open service on the day of the Ikpoleki festival.

The Chief Priest said all the Pastors agreed to hold service between 8am and 9am.

Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the matter was being investigated.

Spain's National Court on Monday, September 30, announced it had dismissed a complaint against Barcelona's Lionel Messi filed by a former employee of the Argentine footballer's foundation, who had accused him of fraud, embezzlement and money laundering.

Dismissing the case, the judge wrote that the complaint "was based on an account put together from stories in the press, without bringing even a single element that was personally and directly known" by the plaintiff.

The complaint was filed in June by Federico Rettori, an Argentine national living in Majorca who formerly worked for Messi's charity.

In it, he named the Barcelona striker, the charity, his father Jorge and brother Rodrigo and "all the people, as yet unidentified, who in one form or another administered or managed the funds at the Leo Messi Foundation," the document said

He claimed that funds received by the foundation which "should have been directed to social causes" instead went "towards various private activities or bank accounts that differed from those that were declared by the foundation".

Rettori also filed suit in Argentina on similar grounds in 2018. According to a judicial source, it prompted the opening of a preliminary investigation but so far, neither Messi nor his father have been charged.

A teenager committed suicide after being outed as bisexual online, his family have said.

Channing Smith, 16, fatally shot himself on September 22, hours after his classmates posted screenshots of his messages online.

The exposed texts show Channing confiding in a friend about his sexuality. But the friend, along with a female classmate, shared the screenshots on Snapchat and Instagram on Sunday night, Channing's brother Joshua Smith said.

"They did it to just completely humiliate and embarrass my brother," Joshua added
Being in a small, rural town in the middle of Tennessee, you can imagine being the laughing stock and having to go to school Monday morning."

After his chats were exposed, Channing reportedly called the girl and told her he was going to commit suicide. The classmate did not bother to alert anyone else about his plans to take his life. Just hours later, the 16-year-old took his own life.

Joshua added: "He couldn’t face the humiliation that was waiting on him when he got to school on Monday, so he shot and killed himself."

Now the family are pushing District Attorney Craig Northcott to file charges against the classmates.

The office announced it was investigating events surrounding the teenager's death.

"My office has encouraged, cooperated in and supported the investigation into the events leading to this death," Northcott told news station WTVF.

He added: "Ethically, I am prohibited from commenting on an open investigation or prosecution. However, procedurally, no charging decisions have been made by my office nor has the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department asked for a decision since the investigation has not been completed."

A balloon release and candle light vigil will be held in Channing's memory on Thursday. October 3.

Kanye West is ever the frustrating perfectionist, 'cause he delayed his album once more -- looking all too happy to do it -- and we know exactly why.

Ye and his entourage were leaving the United Palace Theatre Sunday in NYC, where they were surrounded by paps and fans ... who cheered with joy as the crew all dispersed into waiting SUVs. However, this must've been before the clock struck midnight.

Of course, Kanye did NOT drop his album this weekend as promised, despite a hard date of September 27 first announced by Kim K, and then a pushback of 2 days.

Kim told fans on Friday that Ye's new record, "Jesus is King," would actually arrive Sunday ... but, the weekend came and went -- and we're here twiddling our thumbs again. It's for a good cause though ... because we're told Kanye is still working on it.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... the album is complete, but Ye keeps tweaking it. Every time he listens, there's something he wants to change. We're now told there's no release date anymore ... it's truly TBD.

Still, Mr. West was all smiles on his way out Sunday night -- which is probably all that matters at the end of the day. He's in a good headspace, so you gotta like that.

The album will come when it comes, we suppose ... but can we please talk about the guy in Ye's camp

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says over 100,000 candidates who met admission requirements have so far been offered placements into Nigerian universities for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Spokesman for JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos that the board hoped to utilise 80 to 90 per cent of the available spaces for this year’s admission.

Benjamin stated that the board’s projection for this year’s admission was to ensure that candidates utilised more available spaces unlike in 2018 where about 40 per cent of spaces were not utilised.

“The first choice admission for public universities commenced from August 21 and would last till November 16 and for private universities, it will be from August 21 to February 15, 2020.

“The second choice admissions for public universities will be from November 17 to December 17,’’ he said.

The board also distanced itself from an advertisement on “roque website,” urging candidates and other concerned stakeholders to subscribe ahead of the 2020 UTME.

According to Benjamin, the board knows nothing about the advertisement.

The record of attempted fraud cases in the electronic payment system declined by 47.28 per cent in the second quarter of 2019.

The Director, Payment System Management Department, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Sam Okojere, disclosed this during the second general meeting of the Nigeria electronic fraud forum for 2019 in Lagos.

“As evidenced by the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc’s second quarter fraud report of 2019, attempted fraud volume decreased by 47.28 per cent from first quarter figures, while web, Automated Teller Machine and mobile remain the usual suspects to be used by fraudsters,” he said.

He noted that operators had also continued to ensure concerted and collective efforts were made to check fraud in the country, as a result of the attendant rise in electronic transactions.

The director said, “Because of the cashless policy re-introduction and following the trend of increase in usage of electronic transactions when comparing volume of transactions that occurred in 2012 against 2018, which has seen growth on the following channels;

“Four million transactions to 729million transactions on instant payments, 2.5million transactions to 285million transactions on Point of Sale and 2,200 transactions to 15million transactions on Mobile lnter-Scheme Transactions respectively.

“There is a likelihood of continued increase in electronic transactions and corresponding potential upsurge in electronic fraud.”

He said it was necessary to review and strengthen the existing roles and enact new regulations to mitigate fraud risks in the payment system.

“Taming fraud would continue to be a focus for the forum because of the impact fraud had in diminishing trust which was an essential ingredient in building an internationally- recognised and nationally -utilised payments system,” he said.

“We remain committed in ensuring that the Nigerian payment system is not only easy to use, but also reliable and trustworthy.”

As a forum, he added, it also intended to collaborate with all stakeholders in having a harmonised and intensive awareness campaign on the do’s and don‘ts of electronic payment transactions in order to ensure that users were constantly kept abreast of what was required to be done to protect them from fraudsters.

The director explained that NeFF was the culmination of an enormous collective effort over the years, with many institutions and individuals contributing towards its development and progress to ensure a safe and more secure payments system in Nigeria.

Halsey is giving the gift of music and visuals for her 25th birthday with the release of "Clementine." She wrote the heart wrenching track with John Cunningham, who also served as producer for the song.

I'd like to tell you that my sky's not blue, it's violent rain / And in my world, the people on the street don't know my name / In my world, I'm seven feet tall / And the boys always call, and the girls do too / Because in my world, I'm constantly, constantly havin' a breakthrough / Or a breakdown, or a blackout / Would you make out with me underneath the shelter of the balcony?

The music video shows Halsey and a male dancer bringing her lyrics to life. The pair both donning white jumpsuits with a clementine embroidered on their right pockets. Instead of a usual backdrop, the new video takes place in a real aquarium, paired with ambient lighting and sea life floating all around the 25-year-old.

Halsey's dance partner in the music video is none other than Sevian Frangipane, her brother. The music video was directed by Dani Vitale, who also choreographed the dance number with Anton Tammi.

The new release comes off of her forthcoming album, Maniac, releasing on January 17, 2020. Halsey will be kicking off her Maniac World Tour on February 6. 2020 in Madrid. North American tour dates will be announced soon.

Fans who pre-order the album will instantly receive her previous release, "Graveyard,"  "Without Me" and "Clementine."

A seven-year-old boy from the Madubi Local Government Area of Kano State has lost his life after spending about three years in chains and starvation.

PUNCH learnt that the deceased’s father, Muhammad Ujujud, had chained him and his sister, Binta, for the period before the boy, whose name had yet to be ascertained, died on Monday.

It was gathered that Binta, 12, who had become emaciated, was rescued on Wednesday by officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons who were alerted by residents of the area.

The neighbours had complained that Ujujud rarely provided for the children.

Our correspondent learnt that Ujujud, who was reportedly battling heart-related disease, slumped while in NAPTIP custody and was rushed to a hospital where he also gave up the ghost.

NAPTIP Zonal Commander in Kano, Mr Sheu Umar, who confirmed the incident, said the agency had yet to find out why Ujujud dehumanised the children.

He added that Ujujud’s wife and stepmother of the victim had yet to open up on the reason for the torture.

He said, “Somebody lodged a complaint that the man chained his daughter for about three years. We quickly went to rescue the girl. We learnt that one of his two children, a boy, died on Monday while he was in chains.

“We brought him and the girl to the office. But within 30 minutes of his arrival, he said he wanted to urinate and he collapsed. We rushed him to a hospital where he gave up. He should be in his late 40s.

“We have not interrogated him before he collapsed and the girl cannot talk now. She is in our shelter undergoing treatment. The man’s wife told us that he was suffering from high-blood pressure and heart disease. She said she was on medication.”

But some hours later, the fire started and he was in the room with the deceased.

“When the fire started, it was one of the neighbours that perceived the smoke coming out from the room. We rescued the woman and rushed her to the Federal Medical Center, Owo, where she gave up the ghost,” the source said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the suspect was in police custody and the command had commenced investigation into the matter.

Joseph stated, “We have arrested the husband of the deceased and he is undergoing interrogation. He is still denying his involvement in the crime but circumstantial evidence is showing that he knows one or two things about the incident. We have commenced investigation into the incident.”

Teenager allegedly masturbated a jaw-dropping 56 times non-stop before dying of a heart attack, in the process, even breaking the world record and was awarded a world record certificate by a Guinness representative who later arrived at the home.

Jerome Carpenter was found dead in his bedroom after apparently masturbating too much. It is speculated that Jerome was suffering from depression due to being “extremely lonely”.

Jerome’s mother called Portland police after discovering his corpse in his room. Jerome’s mother told Huzlers reporters “one hour passed since I had called him down for lunch, Jerome was the kind of boy to steal food off your plate when you were not looking, I knew something was wrong when he didn’t come down to eat, he was a great kid,” she finished as she began to cry.

Police arrived at the home about an hour after Ms. Carpenter called them. Officer Dean Marrow told Huzler reporters what they saw when they opened Jerome’s bedroom door. “The young man was on his bed… his pen*s was detached from his body, it must have been so intense it just came off his body, we found his pen*s gripped in his left hand so tightly we couldn’t get it out, it was tragic.”

Investigators are still investigating the case for more information. Jerome’s funeral will take place sometime next week

When American football fan Carson King cheekily held up a sign on TV asking for people to send him money to buy beer, he didn’t expect to receive a cent.

Now, just over a week on, the 24-year-old has raised more than a $1m (£800,000) and is donating the funds to a children’s hospital.

“I was hoping to make a couple people laugh! I never expected to be on TV, and definitely did not except anyone to send any money,” he told Sky News.

Referencing a beer brand, King’s sign read “Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished” and gave his username for mobile payment service Venmo.

When cameras caught the sign on September 14 and broadcast it across America from the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones game, viewers at home began to send him money.

When the cash flowing into his account hit $600 (£480), Mr King conferred with his family and tweeted after the game that he decided to donate all the proceeds (minus the cost of one case of beer) to University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

King told Sky News, “I was hoping, best case scenario, someone in the crowd sees the sign, gets a laugh, and sends $20 for a case of Busch Light.”To go from that to over $1.065million in total contributions – including matches from Busch and Venmo – is amazing.

“It just shows that once people hear about a good cause, they are willing to help.”

King, who is going to accept donations until the end of the month, told Sky News he chose the family hospital “because they do amazing work for everyone in the state, and country for that matter, saving lives and giving hope to thousands of families”.

He said, “I just wanted to help in anyway I could.”

Both Venmo and Busch Light pledged to match the contributions, which meant King’s total funds burst through the $1m barrier on Sunday.

On Monday, the Iowa State University fan tweeted, “I still can’t believe we hit a million dollars yesterday. We’re sitting at over $1,065,000.00 in total contributions to @UIchildrens after @BuschBeer and @venmo match our contribution. #ForTheKids and we’re not done yet!”

An Arsenal fan on the way to a match was stabbed to death by an attacker who accused him of ‘staring at him weirdly’ on a tube platform, friends have said.

Photographer Tashan Daniel, 20, was getting the tube to the Emirates stadium to watch the game between his team and Nottingham Forest when he was the victim of an apparently random attack at Hillingdon station, Mail Online reports.

A friend, who described Tashan as the ‘softest guy’, said, “I’d heard someone on the opposite platform said he was staring at him weirdly.”

Around two hours later, a 22-year-old, named locally as Osvaldo Carvalho, was brutally attacked and killed near Ealing Common.

The Met Police confirmed the two murders – which are believed to be the 113th and 114th violent deaths in London this year – are being treated as separate incidents.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin's official wedding is just a few days away, but according to TMZ, the couple's nuptials are causing problems for people staying at the hotel where the ceremony will take place.

The bride and groom are expected to tie the knot for the second time on Monday, September 30, at the Montage Palmetto Bluff Hotel in South Carolina — and though it's expected to be a joyous and memorable time for the Biebers, the outlet reports guests are "livid" because it's disrupting their vacation stay.

Apparently, an e-mail was sent on Wednesday (September 25) advising everyone that "some of the most prized areas on the property are being closed off from hotel guests." This includes the spa, a pool and "a fancy restaurant for 48 hours while the Biebers enjoy unlimited access during the wedding." This will be in effect from Sunday to Tuesday.

TMZ also reports the hotel is offering guests refunds, alternate bookings and upgrades for the inconvenience, as well as a consolation prize which consists of dinner on the house in one of their other restaurants.

Meanwhile, the "Sorry" singer seems very excited about his big day. This week, he asked fans to help him choose a tuxedo. "It’s between these three," he captioned the post, which included a pink suit and a short black tux.

Even his wife weighed in, writing, "I like the last one personally."

Meghan Markle's nephew was arrested in Hollywood for causing a scene in nothing but a tiny towel.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Thomas Dooley was walking down a street Thursday shouting gibberish ... wearing only a small towel wrapped around his waist. We're told some passersby called cops ... and several units rushed to the scene.

TMZ sources say when officers approached Thomas, he defiantly began walking away, so they tried to detain him. We're told he was taken to the ground and subdued.

That would be it ... it probably wouldn't amount to much more than a misdemeanor, except for the fact an officer injured his knee during the takedown. That elevated things to felony status, so Dooley was booked for felony resisting arrest.

Cops say he was unsurprisingly under the influence of drugs.

Dooley is the son of Meghan's half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr.

He's currently being held on $25k bail.

The family hasn't released a cause of death yet.

Snoop's wife, Shante, poured out her emotions in a song on Thursday ... as she tearfully sang along to the 1970s Dells hit, "The Love We Had Stays On My Mind."

Kai was Corde's third child -- he already has a son, Zion, and daughter Eleven. He was Snoop and Shante's 5th grandchild.

Pastor Busola Olotu says she first knew about Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo's alleged rape of Busola Dakolo eight years before it eventually became public.

Dakolo, a photographer, alleged during a taped interview in June 2019 that Fatoyinbo, the founder of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), raped her twice in 2002, when she was a teenager.

Despite the overwhelming public support for Dakolo, many have also questioned her motive for making the alleged rape public almost 20 years after it happened.

However, Pastor Olotu, founder of Daughters of Deborah International Ministry (DODIM) in Kwara State, has disclosed in an interview with Arise News that she first heard about the incident in 2011 through Dakolo's sister, Funmi Ayeni.

Olotu said Ayeni joined her ministry in 2011, and eventually told her about Fatoyinbo's alleged sexual assault of her sister who was still struggling with "psychological challenges" years after the incident.

"Eventually at some point, she (Ayeni) now called Busola, and even on the phone, I knew I was speaking to a troubled soul.

"She was not happy about herself, about where she was, or what she had had to go through.

"She was not married then. Part of her saga was getting into relationships. She wanted the relationship but at the same time didn't want the relationship because of her past," Olotu said.

The pastor said Fatoyinbo got close to her around the time he was kicking off his ministry in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, but that the relationship became strained when he left Ilorin to expand his ministry.

Fatoyinbo grew COZA from a handful of worshippers in Ilorin in 1999 to thousands of members who worship at branches in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Dubai, with headquarters in Abuja.

Olotu said she didn't reach out to him when she first heard about the allegation because she didn't know where he was at the time, and thought the incident could have been a mistake.

She said, "Somewhere in my mind, I felt that maybe it was a mistake and that I'll just pray for him that this doesn't happen again.

"I could not marry the Biodun I knew with the allegation, but I knew that the girl was telling the truth. From my interaction with her, I knew within me that this was the truth.

"But I didn't know where he was and I wasn't really going to pursue it except in the place of prayer for him," she said.

The pastor said she did reach out to Fatoyinbo sometime later after she had a dream about him where she saw him with an unidentified woman on a bed.

"I called Biodun and I spoke to him and said, 'Biodun, this is the revelation I had and everything.'

"He said, 'No o. There's nothing like that."

"He said he had a challenge some years ago, but all that one has been solved, and he and his wife have a fantastic relationship and everything," Olotu said.

Olotu said Dakolo's decision to finally make the alleged rape public was to help her deal better with the incident years after it happened.

She noted that she's unhappy with how Dakolo has been treated and victimised all over again since she made her public allegations.

Fatoyinbo met with police officers in Abuja on August 27, two months after Dakolo filed a petition against him.

The pastor dismissed Dakolo's allegation as false and stepped down from the pulpit until recently.

Fatoyinbo has also filed complaints of criminal conspiracy and falsehood against Busola Dakolo with the authorities.

Another former member of his church alleged in July that the pastor raped her during a meeting between the two in 2017.

Olotu also mentioned during the interview that she's had three other people who have accused Fatoyinbo of raping them, but they're unwilling to make their stories public.

She said justice for Dakolo would be victory for the church and victory and liberation for many young girls.

"You see, people will now be willing to come out," she said.

According to a report from Variety, Nicki Minaj’s recent claim that she was going to retire may have been a ruse. Back in September, the rapper announced she was considering hanging up her skates permanently, however, this past year, in 2019, the star has done nothing but release new music.

This morning, for instance, the rapper released a new song called, “Fendi,” featuring the Philadelphia producer and rapper, Murda Beatz, and PnB Rock. On the 5th of September, Minaj proclaimed she was inches away from retirement to spend time with her family, however, that appears to not be the case.

On the 6th of September, she stated, “I’m still right here, still madly in love with you guys & you know that.” After the Queen rapper announced she was going to retire, she made an appearence on the Megan Thee Stallion’s track, “Hot Girl Summer.”

It was in the same month that Minaj took some time out of her day to talk smack to Joe Budden her Beats 1 Queen Radio show. And in August, Minaj began working with Lil’ Durk on the track, “Extravagant,” which was later released in July.

#FendiPrintsOn behind the scenes. Yes, my collection is for women AND men. Yes, I’ll give some away to a few lucky fans. 👀😘🎀🛍 long live Chun-Li 🥰 link in my bio to hear #Fendi now

Moreover, she also appeared on Avril Lavigne’s single, “Dumb Blonde,” which was the pop-rockers first single in years, in addition to a collaboration with the A$AP crew, A$AP Ferg and A$AP Rocky. Thus, some fans are eagerly awaiting a new album.

Fans of the rapper know that Nicki’s reputation was recently tarnished in the media when she complained about the fact Travis Scott beat her album with his widely acclaimed and successful, Astroworld. Nicki complained about the way in which Kylie Jenner promoted Scott’s record on her social media before her millions of fans.

This came after Nicki famously feuded with Cardi B as well while at the New York Fashion Week, which culminated in the vicious fight between the two. Nicki later said on her podcast that she was completely humiliated by the event.

Eight people were injured during the tremor which struck the southwest of Istanbul in the Marmara Sea at 2:00 p.m. (GMT+3) before hitting a depth of 7 kilometers (4.34 miles) according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). The Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute however countered the claim by saying the depth was 11.9 kilometers.

An immediate evacuation of schools and hospitals was ordered by Governor Ali Yerlikaya, as it was also gathered that the minaret of a mosque in Avc?lar district in Istanbul collapsed due to the quake.

"Eight people were slightly injured in the earthquake," President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an told reporters at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport returning from his visit to the UN General Assembly in New York.

"According to AFAD, the magnitude of the earthquake is 5.8 and 28 aftershocks are recorded so far," Erdo?an said.
Two buildings were damaged in Sultangazi and Eyüp districts while residents of a building which leaned aside due to the earthquake were evacuated in ?irinevler district of Istanbul. The AFAD strongly urged people not to go back into damaged buildings, while authorities warned there might be more aftershocks.

"We know there are eight injuries. All of them suffered slight injuries. We also know there is light damage to some buildings. This was a relatively strong earthquake, but there has been no tragic news so far," Erdo?an said, adding crews were examining buildings against any damage.

The country which is among the world's most seismically active zones as it is situated on several active fault lines, haas suffered devastating earthquakes in the past including one near Istanbul in 1999 killed more than 17,000 people in the greater region.
