SONY FINALLY CONFIRMS PLAYSTATION 5 OFFICIAL NAME & DROP DATE

Sony has confirmed the name and release date of its next generation console, Wired reports. It will be officially called the PlayStation 5 and it’s due for a “Holiday 2020” drop.

Sony has also revealed details of the changes the PS5 will boast. The controllers’ rumble technology, for example, will be replaced to offer a “broader range of feedback.” The R2 and L2 triggers will also change, allowing users to program the resistance to better feel tension when drawing back a bow, for example, or driving through rough terrain.

The PS5 controller reportedly looks like the PS4’s DualShock 4 and will include USB-C, a larger battery, improved speakers, and more. It will use 100GB Blu-ray discs but all games will need to be installed to its internal (and super-fast) SSD.

Sony also tells wired that the PS5 will feature a “completely revamped user interface” with more detailed social features on the home screen, which will allow gamers to view specific features on the console’s home screen without having to launch the game first.
